Abstract presented at The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) 2023 Nutrition Science & Practice Conference and published in the supplement of the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (JPEN).

Summary: This case study assessed tolerance, weight gain, and quality of life (QoL) in an adult Ulcerative Colitis (UC) patient status post renal transplant consuming a plant-based, fiber-containing diabetes specific enteral formula (PBDF) orally at a single adult gastroenterology center.

Key Takeaways:

Use of a PBDF (Kate Farms Glucose Support 1.2) in this patient with Ulcerative Colitis and diabetes, status-post renal transplant demonstrated improved QoL measures and lab work related to underlying condition.

  • Weight gain and GI tolerance, which led to improvement in QoL measures

  • Glycemic control with a reduction in HbA1C

  • Improvement in creatinine and GFR, with stable BUN levels
